ORLANDO — Liza Hunter-Galvan, an Olympian who finished 35th in the marathon at the Beijing Olympics for team New Zealand, won the inaugural Disney’s Princess Half Marathon today. The new race was an all women’s running event.

Hunter-Galvan and Tuptova were joined by Firaya Sultanova of Russia in the lead pack for the first seven miles of the 13.1-mile race. After Sultanova fell back, Hunter-Galvan and Tuptova battled it out for the lead at the 10-mile mark.
“It took me a half-mile to drop her, but I finally broke her,” Hunter-Galvan told the Orlando Sentinel. “It was tough to break her.”
Kelly Arribas of Winter Park was the top local finisher in 1:26:46. She finished eighth overall out of nearly 7,500 runners.
Heather Schulz of Orlando was 10th overall in 1:27:46. Schulz, 34, is a former Colonial High student who went to Valencia Community College for two years, then walked-on and earned a track scholarship at UCF.
“If it weren’t for running, I would probably need therapy,” Schulz said. “It’s almost like meditation.”
